So whats up with glued down foil wrappers on beer bottles?

I understand it looks pretty, and I guess serves a function of keeping the bottle cap clean, but what is the point of having foil on the bottle really.

I am especially talking about the ones that are glued down, meaning there is no way in hell you can get it all off without some flecks getting stuck to the rim of the bottle.

Forget even trying to drink from the bottle, even pouring them I am worried that some of the flecks are going to fall in. If you are putting it on the bottle to keep it clean and tidy until you are ready to drink one, that purpose is instantly defeated the second you go to do just that.

I have even seen a few times where the glue / whatever was already causing the bottle cap to rust a bit. It was not an old bottle either, this was a just got on shelves two days before, and was bottled that month type of bottle.

I think it is Unibroue that has them but makes it so easy to take off that the foil does not even deform in the slightest when you pull it off.if you are going to have them this is the way to go.

Is foil gluing that much cheaper and faster than wax dipping?

Creepin Towards Summer – Have you grabbed your first of the year yet?

The Creep, everyone loves to talk about it or complain about it. Whichever side of the fence you sit on, the fact is it is late April, and Summer beers are here. Maybe summer gets a little more slack Its easy to want a nice light summer beer if you outside most days as of late working in the yard or whatever. The same may not be said about drinking a fall spiced pumpkin ale at your 4th of July BBQ? Or maybe that is just want you are looking for, either way we are back to the topic at hand: The Creep(er)

Personally I would have said May would have been the time I expected them but that’s what less than a week away. Close enough.

That brings me back to the opening image taken yesterday at the local Wholesale store: A stack of 24 bottle cases of Yeungling’s Summer Wheat, and sitting next to it, with only the Lager to buffer them, and equal amount of their Bock Beer. (ed note: While they did not have any yet I have heard that Samuel Adams Summer is also out and on tap at this point also) I have never had the Summer Wheat as of yet, but man the Bock was good.

So what do you go with? It is spring yes, but the days are getting warmer. Then it is not like the Bock has been sitting all too long when did it come out anyway March? I am guessing most people there are saying fuck it and only get the lager. That is if they are even looking at any of them, or just going to the Heineken and Corona but that is another story.

Where am I on all of this? Honestly Unless any of the Saisons that have been teased at all points around me show up this week, my next buy will probably be a six pack of the Summer Wheat, and a maybe few more singles of the bock. Extra points if either come in cans.

Am I part of the creep, or only buying something new on the shelves that I have not had yet?

Favorite Bier Style(s) for cooking Sasauges / Brats / etc

This could be for pre-boiling before grilling, or slow cooking in the house. I personally go for a lighter Wheat beer most times, but I would love to know what everyone else thinks.

Ramstein – Tradional Style German Beers direct from Butler NJ

http://ift.tt/1q5FNVE

It has been a while since I did a straight up beer review. So I will be taking a break from the Cheesy Movie Pairings which I was writing to take a break from actual reviews.

Anyway, With the announcement that Action Park is coming back I had a kick of nostalgia and wanted to take a look back at the first brewery I went to and the first craft beers I ever had. It also does not hurt that I found some nice and fresh in stores last week.

I forget the year exactly, but it sometime in the late 90’s. My father happened to be watching a bit of Uncle Floyd, and happened to see an ad on there for a new Brewery close by that was doing tours. With nothing else to do that Saturday we headed over to Highpoint Brewery home of Ramstein beers.

It was an interesting quick tour before heading over to the tasting section. At this point it was all one big room, but I believe they have changed a bit since then? I want to say there were 4 beers on tap but I only remember for sure the Blonde (traditional Hefe) Classic (Dunkel) and Winter Wheat (Weizen Bock). Crazy stuff given the lack of styles most general places were selling at the time.

From then on, I would see them in stores from time to time, never that often sadly. I was able to track down some Classic last week and jumped on picking it up to try it again. Even after trying so many different things as of late, this still holds up.

A little clove light chocolate, not too sweet, just a joy to drink on a cool spring day. As the weather gets warmer take a look at the Blonde, honestly one of the best American wheat beers I have tried so far. Light but not feeling watered down, just right, holding its own with any German one I have tried.

This a great company putting out great traditional style beers. I am not sure what their distribution foot print is like, but if you are in Northern New Jersey it will be around in stores, but there is always the Brewery itself. I believe the tasting room is open Monday – Friday. I do need to get back out there some point soon, it is just too close to not hit up.
